This is my new listing at Historic Werthan Mills. Werthan is the most authentic loft property in Nashville. Since we are in the heart of the old south, our history is more about agriculture than the Industrial Revolution. When one normally thinks of lofts they think of the vast urban areas up in the Northeast or in the rust belt cities and states. We just didn’t have vast amounts of factories 100 years ago so our ideas of “loft” is only slightly different from “condo”. Werthan Mills is the exception. It was built in the 1870’s north of downtown on the edge of the area where lots of German immigrants lived. This area came to be known as Germantown. Originally the factory had railroad tracks that ran up to the loading dock so that cotton could be off-loaded easily and then be spun into cotton fabric. Most of the 20th century, Werthan was a manufacturing facility that made burlap, sand, and paper bags. It remained in operation until just 15 or 20 years ago. It sat empty until several years ago.
Now Werthan Mills Lofts is embarking on it’s fifth phase of lofts. After the last phase, there will be nearly 500 units in the Werthan complex. Unit 221, my new listing, happens to be in phase 3. It is 1360 sq ft, features abundant light, tall ceilings, antique chandeliers, custom curtains and rods from The Iron Gate in Franklin, 3 br/2ba, and a private balcony. It is for sale at $249,900.
